Small But Mighty Bathroom

Our Cottage Grove clients came to us with a few things to resolve in their small bathroom.  First and foremost, the bathtub was getting too dangerous to climb in and out of, so replacing it with a shower was a must.  A space that is generally safer to use was also a priority.  Beyond that, making the very tiny space feel larger would be wonderful.  In addition, there was very little useful storage in the existing bathroom.

The shower is clad with Corian solid surface panels.  These panels do not have any grout and are super smooth, making them a breeze to maintain and clean.  The shower also includes a handheld shower head with a slidebar, which allows family members of different heights and sizes to customize their usage.  The low 1” height shower curb and multiple grab bars make for safe usage.

During design, several different options for the vanity cabinet and the odd little corner next to it were discussed.  Due to the small size of the room, the vanity was custom built at a narrower depth than normal, and our clients ultimately decided on a small extension cabinet to fill the additional space.

The vanity is topped with a quartz countertop.  Due to the smaller-than-usual size of the cabinet, a custom tiny sink was ordered.  The faucet features touchless control, so all our clients need to do is wave their hand in front of it to start the water flow.

For additional storage, our team relocated some pipes and wiring and reframed the wall behind the sink to allow for a recessed medicine cabinet.  Recessing the cabinet also helps make the room feel larger.

Speaking of making the room feel larger, a bright color scheme was selected.  In addition, tons of lighting was added to ensure full bright light in all areas.  This lighting is controlled by a dimmer so it can be dialed back if desired.  A clear shower door helps with making the room feel more open.

Behind the scenes, numerous plumbing code violations were corrected.  A new electrical and lighting circuit was installed which keeps the bathroom electrically separated from other spaces.  A whisper quiet exhaust fan was installed and vented through the roof.  The fan is controlled by a timer, so it will shut itself off after it clears the air in the room.

The result is a bathroom that looks great and is incredibly easy and safe for our clients to use.
